A man who laced treats with tranquilliser and provided them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two young males who were nine and 10.
The accused was arrested after eight minors and an older person fell ill at the facility in July.
The 76-year-old, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a total of 17 charges when he was present at the judicial center on the end of the week.
Yet, he refused to admit a single sexual charge he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old child.
Ruben was held in detention prior to a subsequent court date on late November.
'Candy game'
The prosecutor, presenting evidence, detailed the criminal behavior to the legal proceedings.
She said his targets were children from difficult backgrounds who were attending a summer camp which he ran.
The defendant played a "treat game" with the youngsters, the legal counsel stated, in which he would enter the children's bedrooms when they were getting ready for bed and ask them to consume candy "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had played this game with the children "repeatedly", and minors had previously fallen ill the next day.
She explained Ruben had been successful in rationalizing this repeatedly as the children being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepchild had concerns in recently.
The prosecutor stated further: "In the summer" his family member had suspicions about the activities, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel explained materials including infant oil, Vaseline and syringes were discovered, and his family member alerted the police about his concerns.
She stated the man went on to engage in the "candy game" with six children that time - Saturday 26 July - and they were everyone unwell the next day.
"Authorities" had not responded by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the situation.
Mrs Prior stated the children were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so the stepson contacted the police again.
She stated the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a room of five youngsters.
