From the very beginning of Campaign 4, fresh DM the talented storyteller has kept viewers on edge with rich lore, a diverse cast of characters, and a gripping narrative featuring celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers growing in power within the urban setting.
Heads-up: Spoilers for the latest installment of the new season follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
The third episode ended with a major cliffhanger and introduced the premier party of heroes who will split off from the central cast to undertake their own adventure, apart from the additional parties.
The Soldiers table consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), Thimble (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), the cleric (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
With a large ensemble, it was clear from the outset that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
Hence, the first four episodes of Campaign 4 serve as an Overture, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three separate parties: Warriors, Strategists, and Questers.
Characteristics of the Soldiers Table
According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the Soldiers table is for adventurers who are drawn to a typically action-packed battle-oriented gameplay experience where non-violent answers are scarce.
At first glance, characters like the reluctant priest Wicander Halovar might appear out of place, but the actions of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Motivations for Departure
To begin with, the party understands precisely where to head next after a intense first encounter with the enemy group.
A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose demise started the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, breaking into the secret base, striking Thimble, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.
The traitor then paid off his obligations and escaped to a fortified location in Gormalay, Timmony, north of Dol-Makjar, with Cyd hot on his heels.
Character Drivers
Additionally, each adventurer has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:
- The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, desires vengeance.
- The knowledgeable figure has experience in the region and cautions that it is a dangerous location.
- Tyranny and The healer, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
- However, their reputation as prominent individuals in the powerful family could enable the party reach places they usually can’t.
- Moreover, Teor vowed a eternal obligation to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him wherever.
Pursued by Authorities
Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that rule the city for a range of causes, making staying in the city too risky:
- The agile adventurer and The hero are known criminals.
- Tyranny and The cleric defied the influential house and the horde of evil beings they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by the family.
This results in them few options but to journey toward Timmony in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
According to episode three’s Cooldown, we find out that the combat party will be absent the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Questers and Strategists tables.
Viewers can look forward to learning which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
